Low maintenance pet

In the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, this is the stuffed body of Balto, perhaps the most famous dog in history. He spearheaded a delivery of diptheria medicine to Nome, Alaska, in 1925, and inspired the Iditerod dog race. There is a statue of him in Central Park. Posted by Hello

I remember this dog.

This was a portion of the art booty captured during Cleveland's Imperial era, when they invaded Alaska and stole all the art treasures and cattle and cedar baskets, and other valuable stuff, and hauled it all back to Cleveland to decorate their capital with all their conquered wealth.

The Nomes of Alaska are still petitioning the American Congress for Balto's return. He remains mystically beautiful, the haunting symbol of a once proud people.
